Veterinarian and food safety

The classical concept of being a veterinarian is regarded to a person who is highly qualified for treating, curing, and lessening the pain and injuries of animals. But going into depth, there are still some other contemporary roles that should be commenced by veterinarians beyond the important classical concept.

Animal farming has a positive impact on improving livelihoods. But we can't deny the fact that many challenges prevail. These challenges also include a lack of veterinary services. This can lead the farmers to bear a great loss. In economic terms, output declines, costs rise and profits fall. It is because a sick animal produces less meat, less milk, or fewer eggs. To prevent the gruesome condition of farming, it's the role of veterinarians to provide them detailed information on farming which can boost the production rate.

The veterinary profession makes vital contributions to sustainable development to improve livelihoods, food security, and safety. Even small amounts of animal-source foods can subsidize significantly the nutritional profile of human diets, and by-products including manure, fiber, and hides are used as fertilizer, building materials, fuel, and clothing.

Thus, to reduce livelihood threats to the poor that arise from poor farming and disease outbreaks to animals, veterinarians have a pivotal role. A veterinarian has profound knowledge to ensure better health status of animals. This will ultimately increase in production rate which maintains food security and safeguards livelihood via better income.
